Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the catalyst excellent in catalytic stability after the evaluation of polarizing characteristics and catalytic stability in the case of the long- term continuous supply of a current by constituting the catalyst of perovskite type oxide represented by the specific chemical formula. CONSTITUTION:An oxygen reducing electrode 70 is obtained by bonding a gas diffusion layer 71 into which oxygen is introduced and a catalyst support layer 72 coming into contact with an electrolyte and a collector element 73 is embedded in the gas diffusion layer 71. Further, an oxygen reducing catalyst is supported on the catalyst support layer 72. In this case, the oxygen reducing catalyst is constituted of perovskite type oxide represented by the chemical formula (La1-xMx) (Co1-yMny)O3 [wherein M is alkaline earth metal, x is 0<=x<=1 and y is 0.5<=y<=1]. By this constitution, the catalyst for the oxygen reducing electrode excellent in catalytic stability after the evaluation of polarizing characteristics and catalytic stability in the case of the long-term continuous supply of a current is obtained.
