Summary:PURPOSE:To shorten the time and labor required for editing processing by efficiently selecting a required formula constitutional element in the display structure of a formula at the time of executing formula editing processing using the formula display structure. CONSTITUTION:This formula editing device has a CRT display 4a for executing image display indicating a formula output image having display structure specific for a formula concerned and auxiliary display indicating a selection area for the constitutional elements of the formula, an input part 1 for inputting a selective indication for a required constitutional element in the formula while referring to the auxiliary display and an operation processing part 5 for specifying a constitutional element corresponding to the selective indication. The device includes also a display processing part 8 for displaying a display area on a display screen which corresponds to the constitutional element specified by the processing part 5 so as to emphasize it correspondingly to the constitutional element and an edition processing part 6 for executing edition processing for the constitutional element specified by the processing part 5 to execute efficient formula selecting processing.
