Summary:PURPOSE:To effectively utilize the characteristics of a ferroelectric liquid crystal which is extremely high in response speed and can be driven at a video rate, to well maintain the orientability of liquid crystal molecules, to improve a switching state by an effect of an electric field and, therefore, to realize a good wobbling effect (to enhance the resolution of a display element, image pickup element, etc., or to improve display performance, image pickup performance, etc.). CONSTITUTION:Ferroelectric liquid crystals, etc., are used as the liquid crystals 15 of a liquid crystal element 3 to be used for wobbling and specific oriented films consisting of polyimide films or diagonally vapor deposited silicon oxide films are formed as the liquid crystal oriented films. The liquid crystal element 3 for wobbling, of which the contrast is held at >=+ or -50%, the cone angle within + or -20 deg., the change rate of the double refractive quantity within + or -50%, the change rate of the pretilt angle within + or -50% or the change rate of the inclination angle of layer within + or -50% as compared with before impartation of the impact of >=10G acceleration or random waves or sin wave vibrations which can be generated generally at the time of transportation or use, etc., in the case of such impartation is obtd.
