Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce a measuring error due to the dislocation of a conductor as an object to be measured and to reduce a measuring error due to the temperature change of the conductor. CONSTITUTION:A detection part S is composed of a magnetizing coil which is wound substantially around a conductor as an object to be measured and of a transmitting coil, a first receiving coil and a second receiving coil which are arranged and installed in its inside space so as to be coaxial with its central axis. In the detection part, the first receiving coil and the second receiving coil are arranged and installed in such a way that a polarity inversion point in which the changed polarity of the synchronous detection output of the receiving coils with reference to the dislocation of the conductor on the central axis is situated between both. Alternatively, an alternating current at a first frequency f1 and that at a second frequency f2 are applied to the first and second receiving coils. On the basis of at least three out of four of received signals corresponding to the f1 and received signals corresponding to the f2 of the coils, the cross sectional area S, the temperature T and the deviation amount R of the conductor are computed according to a cross sectional operation expression.
