Summary:PURPOSE:To simplify the maintenance/inspection works for a handrail and prevent any accident from occurring when the handrail is going to stop by furnishing a guide rail, which is made in a loop form in the upper part of the railing, and a plurality of moving handrail elements which are arranged movably along the guide rail and equipped with grips. CONSTITUTION:Each moving handrail element 4 is provided with a disc-form rotor, which is fitted in a guide groove 31 rotatably, and a grip which is coupled with the rotor and protrudes upward. A passenger gets on the step 104 and holds the grip of the uppermost one of these handrail elements 4. Because movable along the forward path 3a side, the handrail elements 4 move together with the passenger. A handrail moving mechanism 1 is not interlocked with the driving mechanism for the step 104. and accordingly there is no risk that the handrail elements 4 are in synchronizing dislocation from the running of the step 104. This constitution permits simplifying the maintenance/inspection works for the handrail and prevents occurrence of any accident likely when the handrail is going to stop.
