Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the novel agent containing an agent for suppressing the production of IgE antibody as an active component, exhibiting excellent IgE antibody production suppressing action simply by the topical application to the eye and effective against allergic conjunctivitis, pollenosis, etc. CONSTITUTION:This agent contains an IgE antibody production suppressing agent, preferably (+ or -)-{2-[4-(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxypropoxy)-- phenylcarbamoyl]ethyl}dimethylsulfonium p-toluenesulfonate of the formula as an active component. The compound of the formula can be produced, e.g. by reacting (+ or -)-{2-[4-(3-ethoxy-2-hydroxypropoxy)phenylcarbamoyl]ethyl}methyl sulfide with methyl p-toluenesulfonate. In the case of using the agent as an eye lotion for adult patient, an eye lotion containing 0.2-2w/v% of the compound of the formula as an active component is administered at a rate of one to several drops per dose and 1-6 doses a day.
