Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a developing device capable of obtaining a good developing characteristic and preventing a sheet-like magnet used on a developing roll from being plastically deformed to cause cracks even if the developing roll is made small in diameter by setting the magnetic pole pitch of the developing roll small. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic field generating member setting the magnetic pole pitch small at least in the developing region is provided in a developing roll, a developer is held on the surface of the developing roll in a magnetic brush shape by the magnetic field generating member, the AC voltage superposed with DC voltage is applied to the developing roll, and an electrostatic latent image formed on an electrostatic latent image carrier is developed in this developing device. A flexible sheet-like magnet material 31 is wound on the outer circumference of a core material to form the magnetic field generating member, and the sheet-like magnet material 31 has a fixed curvature in the natural state immediately before it is fitted to the core material.
