Summary:PURPOSE: To simultaneously realize polarized wave dispersion compensation and deflection equivalence by providing a light separation means having a main polarized wave identification means and a Faraday rotation means, and an auxiliary polarized wave identification means. CONSTITUTION: The light separation means is provided with the main polarized wave identification means 14 and 16 sand with the Faraday rotation means 12. The means 12 polarized wave-rotates light which enters from the means 12 and is transmitted to a forward direction and a direction inverse to the forward direction by 45 degrees which is not phase reversal. Furthermore, the auxiliary polarized wave identification means 22 exists. An applied light signal transmitted through a light input path section along a reference axis encounters one polarized identification means in the main and auxiliary polarized wave identification means 14, 16 and 22 at first and the applied light signal is divided into two polarized light signals in a mutually orthogonal polarized state. The polarized wave identification means 14 and 16 are arranged so that optical path lengths where two polarized signals are transverse, namely, cross when the two polarized light signals pass a light separation means and the auxiliary polarized wave identification means 2 are substantially equalized, and polarized wave dispersion is compensated. Then, they extend in the arrangement of a prescribed inclined angle against a face vertical to the reference axis.
