Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption, to enhance the reliability of components and circuits and to make the size of the system small by forming a control signal separation circuit and a measurement signal insertion circuit on a same transmission line and reflecting measurement data to an on-land terminal station equipment. CONSTITUTION:A on-land terminal station equipment 1 sends a control signal to an observation sensor of submarine observing devices 2--1-2-3 at all times. Thus, the measurement data by the device 2-1 are multiplexed on a control signal from the devices 2-2, 2-3 and the resulting data are sent to the device 2-2 as an optical control measurement signal. The measurement data by the device 2-2 are multiplexed on a control signal to the device 2-3 and the resulting data are sent to the device 2-3 as an optical measurement data. The measurement data of the device 2-3 are multiplexed with the measurement data sent to the equipment 1 and sent to a return optical submarine cable 6 as optical measurement data and sent to the equipment 1 via a prescribed path. Thus, the equipment 1 makes prescribed submarine observation data processing based on the measurement data.
