PURPOSE:To provide a sampling device which is constituted so that the occurrence of gas leakage can be eliminated and a sampled liquid or unnecessary samples can be easily recovered in a process at the time of sampling the liquid without clogging a sample passage and the sampling method of the device. CONSTITUTION:A pipeline 4 for sampling which is branched from the upper position of a main pipeline 2 connected to the overflowing position of a reaction furnace 1 for introducing a liquid to a tank and is connected to a sampling box 3, pipeline 6 for cleaning liquid which connects a cleaning liquid supplying source to the box 3, and pipeline 7 for collecting samples having a discharge port at the sample collecting position in the box 3 are connected to each other through a three-way cock 5 and, at the same time, the box 3 has a discharge port 10 and is connected to a pipeline 9 for recovery which has a discharge port 10 and communicates the bottom surface of the box 3 with the lower position of the main pipeline and the inside of which is airtightly constituted. By interrupting the communication between the pipeline 4 for sampling with the pipeline 6 for cleaning liquid by operating the cock 5 and communicating the pipeline 4 with the pipeline for collecting samples, a liquid is sampled in the box 3 through the main pipeline 2 and pipeline 4 for sampling.
