Summary:PURPOSE:To improve absorption capacity for gaseous toluene or carbon tetrachloride and to obtain an active carbon having high BET specific surface area by plasma-treating an active carbon. CONSTITUTION:The active carbon having improved gas absorption capacity is obtaineed by plasma-treatting the active carbon. The obtained activee carbon has >=1900m /g BET specific surface area. Furthermore, the active carbon having improved gas absorption capacity of >=0.32g/g for gaseous toluene and >=0.43g/g for gaseous carbon tetrachloride is obtained. That is, in the active carbon, BET specific surface area is increased and the absorption capacity of a specific gas is improveed by 10 to 20%.
