Summary:PURPOSE:To read bar code information even when merchandise/parts are positioned in any direction by defining symbols consisting of a bar code as bar code symbol to be radially arranged. CONSTITUTION:Concerning a bar code symbol 1, each symbol 11 consisting of the bar code is fan-shaped and circularly arranged as a whole. A circulate track 12 including a radial center 13 of this symbol 11 is provided with information as the bar code. Then, the bar code reader reads the bar code information by rotating a reading sensor 3 in a circumferential direction with the center 13 of the bar code symbol 1 as a central axis. Namely, the bar code reader is composed of a step motor 4 to be rotated in the circumferential direction with a position near the radial center of the bar code symbol 1 as a center and the reading sensor 3 for rotationally scanning the bar code symbol 1 while being held by this step motor 4.
