Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a vibration damping device capable of effectively damping vibration in rotating of a rotor without disturbing miniaturization of a peripheral structure of the rotor. CONSTITUTION: A vibration damping device 10 is provided with a support member 20 to be fixed to the shaft 14 of a rotor, and a vibration damping member 22 to be pinched between a main mass part 12 of the rotor and the support member 20. An axial one end surface 26a of a flange part 26 of the support member 20 is arranged approximately perpendicular to the axis of the shaft 14. The vibration damping member 22 is formed of a visco-elastic body, and fixed to the axial one end surface 12a of the main mass part 12 and to the axial end surface 26a of the support member 20 parallely separated from and facing the axial one end surface 12a. When vibration is generated during the rotation of the rotor, the vibration damping member 22 pinched between the axial end surfaces 12a, 26a is viscously and elastically deformed, and therefore, vibration is quickly damped.
