Summary:PURPOSE:To improve wear resistance without deteriorating high magnetic perme ability by adding specific rare earth elements to an Ni-Fe magnetic alloy. CONSTITUTION:One or >=2 elements among Nd, Pr, and Sm are incorporated by 0.001-1% by weight, in total, into an Ni-Fe magnetic alloy ('Permalloy(R)') of 35-90% Ni content, or further, one or >=2 kinds among <=10% Mo, <=9% Cr, <=10% Cu, <=8% Nb, <=10% W, <=5% Ti, and <=8% V are added by <=10% in total. This alloy is vacuum-melted and formed into a steel ingot. This steel ingot is further subjected to working, such as hot forging, rolling, and cold rolling, heated in a nonoxidizing atmosphere or in vacuum up to a temp. between 600 deg.C and the melting point, and then cooled from a temp. (600 deg.C) not lower than the superlattice - disordered lattice transformation point. By this method, the high magnetic permeability of 'Permalloy(R)' can be maintained and superior wear resistance can be obtained.
