Summary:PURPOSE:To provide an optical module in which a light emitting element and a light receiving element are integrated. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 1 emitting a signal light, a light guide end part 19 of an optical fiber for transmitting the signal light, a light receiving element 8 for receiving a light returning back to the light emitting element 1 side through the optical fiber 5, and a beam splitter 14 for guiding the returning light to the light receiving element 8 by converting the optical path are housed in a package 6 thus constituting an optical module 10. The beam splitter 14 is formed by cutting the forward end part of the optical fiber 5 obliquely and then depositing gold on the inclining face. The signal light emitted from the light emitting element 1 is transmitted through the optical fiber 5 and the returning light is guided to the light receiving element 8 by converting the optical path through the beam splitter 14.
