Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the card reader of economicity whose maintenance is easy and in which the side plate of one side can be unfitted from the side plate of other side, a magnetic head unit is unfitted from the side plate of one side and an unit adjusted beforehand can be fitted and exchanged to and from the side plate of one side via a positioning means. CONSTITUTION:When the insertion of a card C is detected, a motor rotates to start a transferring means (14) and a belt (20) begins a running to take in the card C into a device. Information are written on the card C with a magnetic head 41 and a small hole is bored in the card with a punching mechanism (22) in accordance with information and then the card C is returned again from a card inserting port with the transferring means (14). In the time of exchanging the magnetic head 41, the inserting port is unfitted from the side plate (3), 4 by loosening a screw (12) and the side plate 4 is unfitted from a base 2 by loosening screws 8, (10). A spare magnetic head unit 40 in which a position adjustment with pinch rollers 32, 33 and an azimuth adjustment are finished previously by using a dummy side plate constituted with a condition same as that of the side plate 4 is fixed to the base 2 by engaging a dowel 45 of the bracket 42 with a holes 36 and fixing the bracket 42 to the side plate 4 with a screw 37 and then opposing side plate (3), 4 each other with screws 8, (10).
