PURPOSE:To make it possible to realize a real time shifter by enabling the independent execution of a reproducing operation and a recording operation. CONSTITUTION:When the recording of a signal is started, a recording head 2 records a signal, successively moving from a first recording track to the final track. At this time, information on the start of a recording, a recording track number, a video frame number, a time code and the termination of the recording is recorded with a sound video signal in a disk 1. When a reproduction command signal is impressed from an instruction input device 10 during a recording operation, a recording/reproducing system controller 8 outputs a control signal starting a reproduction from the signal recording portion designated by an input device 10 to a reproduction head 5. In accordance with this, the reproduction head 5 moves at high speed to a reproduction start designated location. During this moving, the attainment of a prescribed reproduction location is detected and the redproduction is started.
