Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a resin compsn. which is harmless, safe, and made flame- retardant virtually without detriment to the properties inherent in a rubber or resin used by compounding the rubber or resin with an additive which improves the flame retardant properties of a metal hydroxide, a flame retardant for a resin or rubber, and hence can greatly reduced the amt. of the metal hydroxide compounded. CONSTITUTION:This resin compsn. comprises 100 pts.wt. resin and/or rubber, 20-200 pts.wt. at least one metal hydroxide selected from the group consisting of Al(OH)3, Mg(OH)2, Ca(OH)2, and a solid soln. of the formula: Mg1-xM<2+>x(OH)2 [wherein M<2+> means at least one kind of divalent metal ion selected from the group consisting of Ca<2+>, Mn<2+>, Fe<2+>, Co<2+>, Cu<2+>, and Zn<2+>; and 0.005<x<0.7]. and 0.1-50 pts.wt. org. acid salt of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Mn<2+>, Fe<2+>, Co<2+>, Cu<2+>, and Cr<3+>.
