Summary:PURPOSE:To enable the estimation of road surface frictional resistance mu also during rectilinear travel without causing large cost increase by estimating the frictional resistance of the travel road surface on the basis of the differential state of differential limiting mechanism, the body speed, and the difference between the rotating speed difference of lateral driving wheels and the reference rotating speed difference. CONSTITUTION:At the time of estimating a road surface frictional resistance mu making use of the relation between the slip factor of a tire and the driving force, a wheel speed difference between lateral driving wheels is computed by a subtracting part 18J on the basis of rotating speed data signals from the lateral wheel speed sensors 19RL, 19RR, and the theoretical rotating speed difference Vo of the driving wheels is computed by a reference rotating speed difference computing means 18F on the basis of the body speed VB computed by an estimated body speed computing part 216 and a steering wheel angle thetaH from a steering angle sensor 20. The difference DELTAV between the wheel speed difference and the reference rotating speed difference is then computed by the subtracting part 18B, and this speed difference DELTAV and the body speed VB are inputted to a road surface frictional resistance estimating part 18D so as to estimate road surface frictional resistance mu by a map also on the basis of the torque moving quantity DELTAT from a control quantity setting part 18C.
