PURPOSE:To improve the resolution of an image pickup device by a simple method. CONSTITUTION:At the time of image pickup operation, voltage is impressed from a coordinate voltage generating circuit 10 to piezo-electric elements 20A to 21B fixed to the upper, lower, right, and left positions of a lens block 3 and respective elements 20A to 21B are expanded/contracted in prescribed order. Thereby the lens block 3 is successively moved up and down or right and left in each field. At the time, the image pickup signals of respective picture elements outputted from a CCD 1 in each field are written in the addresses of a frame memory 6 correspondingly to the positions of the lens 3. After writing image pickup signals for four fields in the memory 6, all the image pickup signals are successively read out in the order of addresses. Consequently image pickup signals corresponding to four times all the picture elements included in the CCD 1 can be obtained at the 1/2 pitch of the aperture part of the CCD 1 and resolution can sharply be improved.
