Summary:PURPOSE:To enable an electronic part pickup device to be lessened in dead time and to feed a chip to the nozzle of a transfer head at a high speed by a method wherein a chip is discharged out of the pocket of a tape independent of its thickness, and a part feeder is made to quickly start moving. CONSTITUTION:A detection means 20 it provided for detecting a discharge time when an electronic part C1 picked up by a nozzle 1 is discharged out of the pocket 3 of a tape 2. A chip data memory, where the discharge timing that the electronic part C1 is discharged out of the pocket, 3 is stored and which is determined on the thickness of the electronic part C1 is stored, is provided. When the detection means 20 detects that the electronic part C1 is discharged out of the pocket 3, a motor 35 is driven to move a part feeder 32. At the time when the electronic part C1 picked up by the nozzle 1 is discharged out of the pocket 3, the part feeder 32 is quickly started to move, so that a chip can be quickly fed to the nozzle 1 of the transfer head 11.
