Summary:PURPOSE:To make the diameter of a recording spot uniform and to improve recording density by changing the optical characteristics of the particles of recording layer by casting laser light, and recording a signal. CONSTITUTION:Particles 2 are dispersed, on a reflecting layer 1a of a substrate 1. A recording layer 4 comprising a medium layer 3, whose optical characteristics are different from the particles 2, is provided on the reflecting layer 1a. The particles 2 are constituted of a material, which comprises, e.g. NaYF4 and emits fluorescence. A light transmitting protecting layer 3 is formed on the recording layer 4. As the particles 2, TbFeCo alloy or the like and HBPS, 9-azino-aricine or the like, whose absorbing wavelength is changed by the casting of laser light 7, can be used. When the laser light 7 is cast on the particles 7, the absorbing wavelength of the particles 2 is changed. Thus, the specified signal is recorded, and rewriting can be performed. At this timer since the particles 2 emit fluorescence, the wavelength of the fluorescence is changed by the laser light 7.
