Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a process for stably producing high-quality NDCA under a mild condition in a high yield over a long period even by recycling a cobalt and manganese catalyst while suppressing the lowering of the catalytic activity to an extremely low level. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalenedicarboxylic acid is produced by oxidizing diisopropylnaphthalene with molecular oxygen in a solution of acetic acid, propionic acid or their mixture containing a catalyst composed of a soluble cobalt salt, a soluble manganese salt and a bromine compound. An aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydride is added to the system in the process for the production of the naphthalenedicarboxylic acid.
