Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the reading of a stain as a whole by monitoring the dispersion of the peak value of a black bar sequentially, and setting a threshold value fitted in the dispersion. CONSTITUTION:A black bar judging means compares the peak value Y of a waveform part extracted with a black part extraction means with a value supplied by equation I according to a condition that the waveform part recognized as the black bar is larger than a prescribed number, and judges whether the waveform part is the black bar or the stain. A maximum/minimum value update means check whether or not the peak value Y of the waveform part recognized as the black bar is larger than the value of a maximum value storage means, and updates the value of the maximum value storage means when the former is larger than the latter, and checks whether or not the peak value is smaller than the value of a minimum value storage means when the former is smaller than the latter, and updates the value of the minimum value storage means when the former is smaller than the latter. In such a way, it if possible to recognize the stain on a bar code printing sheet as the stain correctly, and to improve a correct answer rate in the reading of the bar code.
