Summary:PURPOSE:To measure the position easily at high speeds with high accuracy, to widen the allowable range of measurement and to reduce influences of the setting position of a mark. CONSTITUTION:A three-dimensional polyhedral mark 2 attached to an article 1 which is an object is imaged by TV cameras 3, 4. The side faces of the mark 2 are colored with different colors. R data, G data and B data are respectively formed the image signals of the TV cameras 3, 4 by RGB separating circuits 5, 6 and A/D converters 7R, 7G, 7B, 8R, 8G, 8B. The position of the mark 2 and the colors of the side faces of the mark 2 in the areas imaged by the TV cameras 3, 4 are detected by position detecting devices 11, 12 and color detecting devices 13, 14 based on the two of the three kinds of data. A three- dimensional coordinate operating device 15 operates the three dimensional coordinates of the mark 2 according to the trigonometrical survey based on the detecting results of the position detecting device 11, 12 and color detecting devices 13, 14.
