Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a new compound having strong cardiac infarction- suppressing action and useful for treatment for cardiac infarction. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (R is H, methyl or ethyl), e.g. 4-[3-(3-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propylphenylthio)propylthio)-6-(1-hydrox yethyl)-2- propylphenoxy]lactic acid. This compound of formula I is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (Y is a halogen) with a compound of formula III in the presence of a base (e.g. potassium carbonate) in a solvent (e.g. methylethyl ketone) at ambient temperature to reflux temperature of a solvent. The compound of formula I acts on inflammatory cells to suppress cardiac infarction.
