Summary:PURPOSE:To drive a liquid crystal display element for which high-speed responsiveness liquid crystals are used by high-speed switching. CONSTITUTION:L pieces of the row electrodes of the liquid crystal display element constituted by using the liquid crystal compsn. contg. the liquid crystals of a difluorostilbene system and/or the liquid crystals of a toran system are simultaneously and selectively driven. Selection voltages are set to attain a voltage level of either +Vr or -Vr and the selection voltages to be respectively impressed to the row electrodes R1 to R4, R5 to R8, R9 to R12 are set to correspond to the column vectors of the orthogonal matrix of K-th order (K is a power multiplier of L or above) with +Vr or -Vr as an element. On the other hand, the voltages of the level corresponding to the total sum of the exclusive OR of the corresponding elements of the data vectors and selection voltage vectors are applied to the column electrodes C1 to C3.
