Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent flicker and to obtain a color picture with high resolution by outputting a chrominance signal not easily visually observed by a picture display section when a video signal storage circuit reads a chrominance signal and a run-over read takes place. CONSTITUTION:Each chrominance signal is separated from an external composite video signal by a chrominance signal separator circuit 8 and stored in video signal storage circuits 9R, 9G, 9B synchronously with a vertical synchronizing signal. Then each chrominance signal is repetitively read at a faster speed than that of the storage operation, outputted sequentially to a picture display section 15 and a color filter corresponding to the chrominance signal is driven by a drive section 3 in front of a display section 15. When each chrominance signal is read from the video signal storage circuits 9R, 9G, 9B and a run-over read of a chrominance signal is generated, a color signal not easily observed by a video display section 15 is outputted from a chrominance signal output means. The chrominance signal output means consists of the video signal storage circuit 9B, a signal changeover circuit 10, frequency conversion circuits 12, 13 and a control circuit 14.
