PURPOSE:To make it possible to easily set a tatami mat and prevent the stumbling on the side surface of the tatami mat by disposing a tatami dividing strip having an inclined surface between the upper edges of the opposite sides of the strip along the tatami mat placed on the floor. CONSTITUTION:Tatami dividing strips of bar-shape 10, 10 are provided, wherein the side 11 in contact with tatami mat 2, 2 has a height nearly equal to the thickness of the tatami mat 2 and the opposite side 12 has an intermediate height between the surface of the floor 6 and the surface of the mat 2, and an inclined surface is formed between the upper edges of the opposing sides 11, 12. The strips 10 are placed along the sides of the mats 2 placed on the floor 6 and the strips 10 are fixed to the floor 6 by means of nails or screws to prevent the movement of the mat 2 or the slippage in relative positions of a plurality of mats 2, and the outward appearance of the sides of the mat 2 is improved. The differences in grade between the floor 6 and the upper surface of the mat 2 are eliminated thereby preventing a walker from stumbling on the mat.
