Summary:PURPOSE:To enable not only the removal of an org. component but also the removal of chromaticity not inferior to that at a time of the use of activated carbon by adding coffee extract grounds preliminarily subjected to drying treatment, carbonizing treatment or chemical treatment to an aeration tank when waste water is subjected to activated sludge treatment. CONSTITUTION:Coffee extract grounds are dried for 3hr or more, for example, at 110 deg.C or lower by hot air drying or air drying or carbonized, for example, at 900 deg.C or lower for 10hr or less. In chemical treatment, an alkali agent or an oxidizing agent is used. By applying these treatments, the color component removing capacity as powdery activated carbon is obtained and the sedimentation properties in a final sedimentation basin are excellent and the quality of treated water is stable. Further, waste water is inexpensively treated without damaging sewage dehydrating properties.
