Summary:PURPOSE:To provide an element wherein operation of higher repetition frequency is possible, control is easy (the repetition frequency is changeable), a higher output optical pulse train wherein not only the time width but also the spectrum width are narrower is simply generated, and the optical pulse train is subjected to coding and decoding. CONSTITUTION:In the optical pulse generation control element, a laser light source 12, a light modulation part 13, and a light control part 14 are integrally arranged on a semiconductor substrate, via an optical waveguide. The element has coding function which absorbs or transmits only specific optical pulses in a optical a pulse train by a light control part, after the optical pulse train is generated by modulating the intensity of the output light from the laser light source by a light modulation part.
