PURPOSE:To apply laser beams on a sample plane by quick original picture replacement without replacing an original picture in an optical path by irradiating a transmission-type liquid crystal display device with laser beams with power density which does not cause damages to the transmission-type liquid crystal display device and converging the laser beams for marking. CONSTITUTION:A pattern forming device is provided with a transmission-type liquid crystal display device 10 which displays an original picture by a control signal from the external and a laser oscillator 1 which applies laser beams 2 on the transmission-type liquid crystal display device by the control signal. The device is also provided with a projecting lens 6 which projects the original picture displayed on the transmission-type liquid crystal display device 10 on a sample 7 for marking and a signal control means 11 which controls the timing of inputting the control signal to the transmission-type liquid crystal display device 10 and to the laser oscillator 1. Laser beams 2 are applied on the transmission-type liquid crystal display device 10 by selecting the power density so as not to damage the transmission-type liquid crystal display device 10, and the laser beams 2 are converged for marking.
