PURPOSE:To provide the compensation plate for a liquid crystal display element having an improved visual angle characteristic. CONSTITUTION:This compensation plate for the liquid crystal display element includes a liquid crystalline high-polymer layer which makes twist-nematic orientation at a liquid crystal state and turns to a glassy state at a temp. below a liquid crystal transition point. The liquid crystalline high polymer is formed by using a compsn. consisting of optically active polyester contg. an arom. unit in which the bond constituting the main chain in an orhto position and the arom. unit in which the bond constituting the main chain is a meta position or polyester contg. the arom. unit in which polyester and/or the bond constituting the main chain is on orhto position and the arom. unit in which the bond constituting the main chain is a meta position and an optically active compd.
