Summary:PURPOSE:To execute the marking or the like on steel plate or the like at a high speed by opening the shutter to start the irradiation of the laser beam when the marking is started after the oscillation is stopped, and controlling the irradiation timing during the marking. CONSTITUTION:A steel plate P is loaded on a stage S, and the center of the ftheta lens 7 of a laser beam head 1 is moved to the marking range 15. When the marking is started, the oscillation of the laser beam is started, and when the laser beam mode is stabilized, a shutter 13 is opened. During the marking, the timing of the pulse oscillation is adjusted to control the irradiation timing, and the dot character is marked in the region A by scanning a galvano-scanner 8. Then, the center of the ftheta lens 7 of the laser beam head 1 is moved to the center of the region B of the marking region 15 to execute the marking in the region B. If the period of time to cool the optical element is elapsed after the region A is marked, the irradiation timing is controlled by the shutter 13 when the marking is started, while the irradiation timing is controlled by the pulse oscillation timing during the marking. In addition, the marking is executed on the regions C, D in a similar manner.
