Summary:PURPOSE:To manufacture a case for a superconducting coil strong enough to withstand an electromagnetic force without causing any damage or thermal effects on its contents through a simple method. CONSTITUTION:A coil case 2 is composed of a U-shaped first member 7 and a second member 8, a coil 1 is housed in the U-shaped first member 7, the second member 8 is fitted to the outside of the first member 7, and the members 7 and 8 are welded together at their ends. At this welding operation, liquefied gas 9 is made to flow through a path 5 provided between the coil 1 and the case 2 to cool them. By this setup, a coil case is kept free from damage preventing its contents from being thermally affected and least deformed by welding while the case is manufactured. A superconducting coil case very high in strength and reliability can be obtained.
