Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a protective device a hard disk recording/reproducing device for small-sized apparatus such as an electronic still camera capable of surely preventing a head crush due to the external force such as vibration, shock. CONSTITUTION:The device is furnished with a 1st acceleration sensor 23 to detect the external force (vibration, shock, etc.) in the direction of rotary shaft of the hard disk 19 and a 2nd acceleration sensor 24 to detect the external force in the moving direction of a magnetic head. When the device is applied with the external force, an input/output signal of the magnetic head 18 is stopped by a control circuit 27 which is operated in accordance with the detection signals of these acceleration sensors 23, 24, and also the constitution is made so that the magnetic head 18 is retreated from the recording/reproducing area of the hard disk 19.
