Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the subject copolymer excellent in resistance to water, having biodegradability, etc., by ring opening copolymerization between at least one kind of cyclic ester and at least one kind of cyclic amide. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, 0.2-2mol%, based on the raw monomer, of an initiator (pref. an alkali metal alkoxide) is added to at least one kind of cyclic amide melted by heating (e.g. omega-caprolactam). At least one kind of cyclic ester (e.g. omega-carprolactone) is then added, either continuously or intermittently, to the system by dripping (in the case at 170 deg.C, pref. for >=5min) over a period of a specified time (>=10min) to carry out copolymerization. After completing the copolymerization, the system is brought to a state of reduced pressure to eliminate excess monomer, thus affording the objective copolymer.
