Summary:PURPOSE:To reduce current consumption at the same time reduce noise in a magnetic reproduction device using a magnetic resistance effect element for a reproduction head. CONSTITUTION:The resistance of a magnetic resistance effect element 2 changes according to the magnetization of a magnetic recording medium 1. A detection circuit 3 detects the change in resistance of the magnetic resistance effect element 2. A time control circuit 4 generates a time signal for enabling the detection circuit 3 to operate for a prescribed time width. A retention circuit 5 retains the output signal of the detection circuit 3 in synchronization with the time signal. A low-pass filter circuit 6 receives the output of the retention circuit 5 obtains reproduction output and then outputs it to an output terminal 7, thus interrupting the sense current flowing to the magnetic resistance effect element 2 and reducing average current for saving power.
