Summary:PURPOSE:To engage a driving body with a moving body in a constantly appropriate manner and prevent generation of engagement failure when the position of the moving body is changed by providing a storage part to hold the data necessary for the appropriate engagement of the driving body which is arranged on a bed in a reciprocating manner with the moving body. CONSTITUTION:In a machine tool such as an NC lathe, a spindle stock 3 and a tail stock 4 are arranged opposite to each other on a bed 2, a work W is held between the two, and this work W is worked by a cutter T mounted on a carriage 5 as a driving body. A data storage part to store the present clamp position data corresponding to the present position of the tail stock 4, the final moving direction data corresponding to the moving direction of the immediately previous movement of the tail stock 4, the positioning correction data to eliminate the positional deviation of engagement of the carriage 5 or the like is provided. When the position change of the tail stock 4 is ordered, the data processing for engagement of the carriage 5 with the tail stock 4 is executed based on the stored present position data or the like.
