PURPOSE:To provide the subject new compound giving broad herbicidal activities, and useful as an active ingredient for the selective herbicides for paddy fields with safety and/or environmental tolerance for crop. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I {Ar is of formula VII or formula VIII [R is alkyl, alkoxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkoxycarbonyl, NR R , OnS (O)n, R , halogen, NR SO2R , CN or NO2 (R -R are each H or alkyl; R is alkyl; (n) is 0 or 1; (n)' is 0-2); R and R are each H or R ]; R -R are each O, S or 1-4C alkylene; Q is O or S; R -R , R and R are each H, alkyl or COOR (R is H or alkyl); R is alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, benzyl CN or of formula IX ((m) is 1-3; R and R are each H or alkyl); (l) is 0-2}. This compound can be obtained through the synthesis route given by the reaction formulas, having remarkable herbicidal activity against the annual and perennial paddy weeds, while being low in chemical injury in paddy rice.
