Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a method for anodically oxidizing a magnetic disk substrate made of titanium by which an anodic oxide film excellent in adhesion to the titanium substrate and having low surface roughness is formed. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic disk substrate made of titanium and a cathode material are prepared and immersed at an interval in an aq. electrolytic soln. contg. fluorine at a prescribed concn. and one or more among chlorine, bromine and iodine at a prescribed concn. as halogen elements. The disk substrate is anodically oxidized by impressing a prescribed DC voltage and the anodically oxidized disk substrate is anodically oxidized again in an acidic electrolytic soln.
