PURPOSE:To prevent lockup oscillation and generation of speed change shock at the time of performing oil temperature decreasing control, by providing a means for varying a set oil temperature according to speed change steps. CONSTITUTION:The speed change step at time of a signal 32 is judged based on the signal Z2 from a speed change step setting means 34, by means of the oil temperature setting means 32 of a controller 30. Next, a set value with respect to an oil pan is set according to the judged speed change step. The set value is decreased as the speed change step is high. To the set value of the oil pan set per speed change step is added the difference between the oil temperature of the oil pan and the oil temperature of a torque converter, and the set value with respect to the torque converter is found call. It is judged whether this set value is less that the oil temperature detected by the oil temperature sensor, and the oil temperature is less than an allowable temperature when the judged result is NO, and control for decreasing the oil temperature is not necessary. Lockup or shiftdown is performed by an oil temperature increase suppressing means 24 for decreasing the oil temperature, when the judged result is YES.
