Summary:PURPOSE:To allow dimensional reduction at a joint by shortening the extra length of cable required for joint work. CONSTITUTION:An insulation reinforcing body 21 is subjected to diametral reduction at the opposite ends thereof and an insulation tube 25 is disposed on the outside. Main and end protective pipes 23, 24 are electrically isolated in the longitudinal direction by means of the insulation tube 25. Consequently, the width of the insulation tube 25 has no effect on the overal length of the joint and a sufficient insulation distance can be ensured with respect to the main protective pipe 23 even if the semiconductive part 12 of stress cone is disposed at an end of the insulation reinforcing body 21. Furthermore, extra length of cable can be shortened at the joint. A high permittivity layer 22 makes smooth the electric field around a shield layer 6 provided on the outer periphery of the insulation reinforcing body 21.
