Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a liquid crystal display device in which picture quality can be improved by solving a problem of defective burning phenomenon due to a transverse electric field. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with a transparent substrate 3 in which plural transparent stripe-shaped electrodes 1 are arranged in line, a transparent substrate 7 arranged confronting with the transparent substrate 3 and in which plural stripe-shaped electrodes 5 are arranged in line, a liquid crystal component as a liquid crystal layer 9 in which the transparent substrates 3, 7 are oppositely arranged and which forms a picture element held in a gap between the strip- shaped electrodes 1, 5 sealed between the substrates opposite to each other, insulating film 11 formed between adjacent stripe-shaped electrodes 1 arranged in line on the transparent substrate 3 on one side, and a second stripe-shaped electrode 13 arranged in line at a nonpicture element part on the insulating film 11 and to which a voltage is applied from a voltage application part.
