Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a production method for stably polymerizing an ethylene- propylene block copolymer capable of forming a molding excellent in visual appearance, elongation and impact resistance. CONSTITUTION:A method for production of an ethylene-propylene block copolymer comprising the steps of (1) polymerizing propylene homopolymer in the presence of a catalyst system composed of (A) solid catalyst components containing magnesium, titanium and a halogen as the essential components, (B) an organoaluminum compound and (C) a silicon compound represented by the general formula R R Si(OR )2 (R is an alicyclic hydrocarbon group. R and R are each a hydrocarbon group); and (2) polymerizing the ethylene- propylene block copolymer in the presence of an additional silicon compound expressed by (C') the general formula R aSi(OR )4-a [R and R are each a 1 to 20C hydrocarbon group. a is 0<=a<=4].
