Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the binder compsn. for a casting mold capable of yielding system sand having an excellent flow property and packability into a pattern. CONSTITUTION:This binder compsn. for the casting mold contains a phenol aldehyde modified resin as its main material. This phenol aldehyde modified resin is obtd. by cocondensation polymn. of phenols, a phenol compd. and an aldehyde compd. Phenol, cresol, 3-5-xylenol, resorcinol and cathecol are used alone or in combination as the phenol. Nonylphenol, P-tert-butyl phenol, isopropenyl phenol, phenyl phenol and cashewnut shell liquid are used alone or in combination as the phenol compd. Formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, furfural and glyoxazole are used alone or in combination as the aldehyde compd. The casting mold is obtd. by a desired method using system sand composed of this binder compsn. for the casting mold and refractory granular material.
