PURPOSE:To assure normal pattern weaving by dealing with the variation in chenille yarn extension depending on picking tension and the variation in rapier stroke due to loom vibration. etc., in weaving a chenille woven fabric so that chenille yarns with pattern elements such as in patterned yarns are picked using a rapier. CONSTITUTION:In weaving a chenille woven fabric so that chenille yarns Y with pattern elements are picked with a rapier 3 to weave a pattern, the chenille yarns Y under picking are gripped with a gripper 20 and moved to the side opposite to the picking side; at the beginning of such movement or toward the end of the picking, the ear mark A at the front side of the picking range for the yarns Y is put to constant point detection by a sensor 1; based on the result, the ear at the front side of the yarns Y is restrained in place with a clamp 14, and under this restraint, the above-mentioned movement by the gripper 20 is continued and another ear mark B at the other side of the yarns Y is put to constant point detection by a second sensor 2; based on the result, the movement by the gripper 20 is stopped at a specified time.
