Summary:PURPOSE:To steadily form satisfactory images by accurately detecting the hygroscopic state in developer, etc., even when an ambient environment, especially humidity, changes, and properly controlling conditions under which image formation is carried out by means of an image forming device. CONSTITUTION:The image forming device which forms images by the use of developer and removes residual developer on the surface of an image carrier 1 by means of cleaning members 7 and 8 after transfer is further provided with a detection means 30 for detecting change in the conditions of the cleaning members 7 and 8 with humidity change; and a control means 20 for controlling based on the changes in the conditions of the cleaning members 7 and 8, detected by the detection means 30, conditions under which image formation is carried out by the image forming device.
