Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the subject agent effective as a preventive and therapeutic agent for allergic diseases, comprising a water-soluble composition of a plant material such as whole plant of quttiferous plant, stem of caprifoliaceous plant, ripe fruit of Crataegus cuneata or Crataegus maxinowiczii of rosaceous plant as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Whole plant of Hypericum erectum belonging to the family Guttiferae, stem of Lonicera japonica belonging to the family Caprifoliaceae, ripe fruit of Crataegus cuneata or Crataegus maxinowiczii or its variety belonging to the family Rosaceae is collected, finely cut, dried under sunshine and ground by a crusher to give dried powder, which is mixed with water and heated under reflux to extract a water-soluble component. The extracted solution is centrifuged, a supernatant liquid is extracted, optionally water is distilled away from the extracted solution and the extracted solution is made into a powdery state to give a component having inhibitory action on mast cell histamine liberation. The component is made into an aqueous solution of an arbitrary concentration to give a spray agent, embrocation of eye drop or mixed with an ointment base such as an ointment for external application. Consequently, the objective mast cell histamine liberation inhibitor useful for preventing and treating diseases caused by allergic reaction is obtained.
