Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a granular colorant which forms a beautiful speckled pattern on a resin molding and thus gives the molding a decorative effect. CONSTITUTION:A granular colorant is obtd. by covering the surface of a thermoplastic resin pellet as the central core with a hardenable resin well mixed in advance with a dye or pigment and then hardening the hardenable resin. The hardenable resin is ultraviolet-curable or of a multicomponent reactive type. Thus, the colorant is obtd. without resort of the previous grinding of a hardened resin, a high-cost secondary processing, or any special work on a mold or a molding machine. The colorant is homogeneously dispersed in a resin and gives a molding having a beautiful speckled pattern easily at a high reproducibility while using a generally used extruder or injection molding machine.
